Hockey Section

Kings Heath Pickwick Hockey Club is a South Birmingham based hockey club providing league and social hockey to Men, Women and Young People from the local community.

The Men’s section is made up of two local clubs, Kings Heath Hockey Club and Pickwick Hockey Club, that amalgamated in 1994 with Pickwick Hockey Club leaving its ground to move to Kings Heath Cricket and Sports Club. It has a long history and is one of the oldest hockey clubs in the Midlands running up to eight teams every week in its heyday. Playing hockey within the Worcestershire region meant at times the majority of the County and Midlands sides consisted of either Kings Heath H.C. or Pickwick H.C. players.

The amalgamation also saw two of the biggest youth training schemes in the Midlands join forces. This created a consistently strong youth section which has provided the majority of the club’s players over the past twenty-five years. Both clubs had always had close ties with local schools and this tradition still continues today.

The Ladies’ section has not been in existence as long, but has enjoyed considerable success on the pitch, and has continued in the Kings Heath Pickwick tradition of encouraging and developing young players as they progress through the Youth Section into the Senior Club.
